    Rampage by Carmel Said

    Rampage, 2021

In reference to political deception in the artist's home country, here Reason, Truth and Democracy are overpowered by the ruthless and self-serving. Iron filings and vinegar have been applied to the etched drawing to show that the truth, as the artist interprets, has been obscured.

    The Evidence by Carmel Said

    The Evidence, 2016

This piece concerns a notorious and brutal assassination that took place in Malta in the 1980’s when, during a high profile court case, the dismembered body of a key witness was discovered at the bottom of a well. The artist used a corrupting mixture of iron filings and vinegar to oxidise the scene’s details over time so that the piece has obscured since its completion. This was done to recall the ruined, incriminating evidence found alongside the victim’s body. The case remains unsolved.
